Research Interest
How can speculative design practice be used as a conduit to question the rhetoric of modeling within biomedical and health care sciences, building a comprehension of the nuances of trans-disciplinary engagement of other scientists, health professionals, artists and members of public in this research process and how it leads to new enquiries within biomedical and heath care sciences?
Background
Agi Haines’ work is focused on the design of the human body. How might people respond to the possibilities of our body as another everyday material and how far can we push our malleable bodies while still being accepted by society? Her research is focused on the weird and wonderful things that exist inside us. Questioning how our morbid curiosity for the viscera of life might affect the future of design, not only for the environment but also for us as sentient sacks of flesh within it.
Experience
After completing her BA in Graphic design Agi Haines attended the Design Interactions program at the Royal College of Art. In between she was working as a sculptor, studio hand and production assistant for a range of artists and filmmakers. Presenting her current works as a professional speculative designer within exhibitions, talks and events.
